Abstract

The paper took a cursory looks on education and cyber crime: analysis and prevention in the 21^st century. It is captured in the paper that new technologies create new criminal opportunities as well as new types of crime. With the modernization and availability of technology at affordable prices it has led to wide spread use of technology for development as well as destruction. Cyber crime highlights the centrality of networked computers in our lives and the fragility of such seemingly solid facts as individual identity. The paper also identified the causes of cyber-crime to include unemployment and quest for Wealth among others. It recommends that, government at all levels should ensure that its laws apply at cybercrimes. It is important that Nigeria as a nation takes measures to ensure that its penal and procedural laws are adequate to meet the challenges posed by cybercrimes. In conclusion, the importance of protecting our education system from cyber crime cannot be overstated. Not only do schools, colleges and universities provide vital services to our society and economy, they are rich treasure troves of sensitive data.

Abstract

This paper sought to find out a rediscovery of ethical issues in accessing higher quality education. The researchers adopted logical deduction and model statement in carrying out this work. The development of higher education in Nigeria was found impactful upon a range of stakeholders in both home and host countries. Many of the arguments against higher education in Nigeria were based on ethical issues, such as lack of academic freedom and civil liberties. Ignoring ethical issues may deny institutions the achievement of legitimacy, development, which can result in financial losses and reputable damage. Thus, the researchers recommended that there should be quality education which reemphasis on essential knowledge, inculcating positive values and mastering useful skills that will increasingly make life meaningful to all and sundry. On the issues of academic freedom, government needs to tolerate and encourage the holding of diverse and differing views on any issues as it is the hallmark of ‘Academic Freedom’. The researchers concluded that all hands should be on desk for the development of higher education in Nigeria, having in minds the current ethical issues lacking in the higher education.

Abstract

This paper has made an attempt to explore the security situation in Nigeria with the view to setting the stage for the discussion of the topic. The study first of all established that Nigeria is immersed in a serious situation of insecurity. The security situation is believed to call for serious attention and action as it appears to currently be at its lowest ebb. In the light of the above, the paper utilized the instrumentality of Igbo philosophy of egbe bere ugo bere to unravel and explicate the security situation in Nigeria. It as well articulated possible ways that respect and how tolerance for differences in ethnicity, religion, political affiliations as well as other ideals inherent in the philosophy of egbe bere ugo bere can help to ensure stable relationship among Nigerians in order to improve the current security situation in the country. Consequently, conclusions were made and various recommendations were as well put forward.

Abstract

The past decade has brought increased access to new media and with this new opportunities and challenges for education. The authors utilized descriptive approach. In this paper, the authors explore the digital transformation now taking place in a variety of educational contexts. The contributors examined such topics as social media usage in schools, online youth communities, and learning in Nigeria; the disruption of existing educational models of how knowledge is created and shared. The bottom line is that social media is a big part of our day to day life and there’s no point of keeping it away from the education process. School, college and university staff should be encouraged to make use of technology for student and parent communication. It recommended that, that government and school authorities checkmate and regulate the use of social media among student and students.

Abstract

It is quite obvious that education is one of the extremely important factors of development. Whether we are thinking in terms of safety, economic and social progress, education provides opportunity or possibility depending on circumstances. This paper, therefore, attempts to examine the role of education and language as tools for economic development and fighting insecurity in Nigeria. The paper argued that insecurity is Nigeria’s biggest challenge at the moment and it further noted that most educated people tend to avoid criminal acts that might lead them to humiliation. The paper opined that education and language are desired tools for economic recovery and development since they empower individuals and the nation at large, by providing them with knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that would transform them and the country for the better. The paper concluded that so long as Nigeria as a country continues to pay lip service to the educational requirements of its citizens, development and progress will elude the nation.

Abstract

This study examined issues and pragmatic challenges for education and terrorism in the 21^st century: The way forward. This article seeks to prioritise education and security (issues) and their relationships through various disciplinary perspectives in the context of the Nigerian “war on terrorism” after various attacks on the Northern States. However, it focuses only on Northern part of the nation. It examines issues, perspectives or definitions of “banditry, “terrorism” or “security” or suffering and tragedy among others. It stresses security through critical pedagogy and comparative perspectives while highlighting future research possibilities. The paper concluded that some of the security problems confronting us as nation are socio‐economic agitation, ethno‐religious crises, organized crimes and so on. And it recommends among others that education should be prioritized and targets children who are least likely to receive an education have access and complete quality education, within a safe learning environment, gaining the skills and knowledge for lifelong learning. Government should create an enabling environment for education by improving the quality of education, increasing demand for education, and humanitarian assistance.

Abstract

This paper examined the need for the promotion of collectivism through education as a response to economic and security challenges in Nigeria.  This was precipitated by the alarming rate at which the security of life and properties of Nigerians are constantly threatened and the consequent downturn of the nation’s economy. For the fact that measures earlier taken to ameliorate the security and economic problems in Nigeria have failed spectacularly, the writers argued that these problems are man-made and basically resulting from agitations and selfish mentality. They opined that education is a panacea to solving the problems. They further submitted that the type of education needed to improve the economic and security state of Nigeria is such that gears towards promoting collectivism in such a way that all and sundry may look beyond ethnic politics and sentiments and shield different destructive sword for the purpose of restoring peace and security, economic stability and overall development of Nigeria. It was recommended that stakeholders in the Nigerian education system should adopt a radical approach of in-and-out of classroom education geared towards effective reorientation so as to expose Nigerians to the need to pursue collective interest and place Nigeria’s development above selfish gains and personal interests.

Abstract A society cannot prosper in conflict situations where there are fightings, quarrels, distrust, hatred, anger, vandalization, killings among others. People are usually confused, worried and panicked in such a setting leading to serious unrest, underdevelopment, chaos, etc. The cruz of the matter is that the federal government is not doing enough for the area despite it being the treasure bank of the nation. It is very ironic that this area suffers from hunger, epileptic power supply, underemployment and unemployment, poor educational infrastructure, among others. The Niger Deltans also decry the injustice and maltreatment meted to them by multinational companies in the area who explore their oil but leave their farm-lands and environments destroyed due to oil spillage, burning of carbons and other toxics. Consequently, education has suffered greatly in this region and its citizens are worst hit. Due to these happenings, many youths in the area have lost interest in education and prefer to do anything that will give them quick money including bunkering, banditry, kidnapping, violence, stealing, etc. The government thus, will do well by listening to the plight of the Niger Deltans and do what is right for the region before the area becomes uncontrollable. Also, there should be a proper memorandum of understanding (MoU) between government, the multinational companies and leaders of the region in order to facilitate development in the area and reduce growing insecurity. In this way, education in the region will be protected and enhanced for everyone to benefit from.

Abstract

The question of what ought to constitute the nature and determining ground for the relationship between politics and education has become one of the contemporary subjects bothering on most Nigerian academics. In a bid to resolve this lingering imbroglio, this paper investigated the relationship between politics and education using the descriptive research method. In examining the relationship between politics and education, this work began with a clarification of the major concepts that underlying our discussion. Findings from the study revealed that politics and education are closely knitted together and they mutually reinforce one another.  A good educational system is an off-shoot and consequence of a good political system and a good political system is impracticable without quality education because education helps in the provision of the needed manpower to drive the political system of a nation. The study also revealed that when a nation gets it right with politics and education, the country will surely be great and stable. The study however, concluded that the well-being, development and success of an individual or society at large depend to a large extent on the politics and education of that society. It recommended among others that authorities of educational institutions should partner with the government and international organizations to provide continual political education that gears towards political reorientation and sensitization of all facets of Nigeria beyond the limits of the classroom.

This study examined the Women Education and Political Participation: Challenges and Prospects in Nigerian Democracy. The acquisition of new knowledge in the life of an individual is very crucial to the level the individual will attain in life. It is the same when it comes to the amount of education that women acquired. The more knowledgeable a women is, the more she is able to dominate her environment. As the world is evolving so is learning. Learning does not end neither does it have limits. As long as a woman is determined, she can learn anything; even to any extent. One of the areas they can apply their knowledge is in the field of politics which hitherto has been seen as male territory. Women must come out and utilize their God-given potentials in politics. Their contributions are very essential which will go a long way in improving the society. Thus, one of the focuses of women education in present the dispensation should be in the area of empowering women in political participation.
